Nick Solé - Beautiful Day EP

  • Nick Solé has made a habit of parceling out his material slowly, similar in manner to the pace of his considered dubby house music. The 40-something began his production career in 2005, and, as such, doesn't seem to have the same careerist itch that many youngsters might. He's content to work on his tracks until they sound exactly as he wants them. (Literally: He's also mastered Beautiful Day as well.) His debut for Hamburg's Faux Pas imprint follows in the wake of excellent work from Desolate and Mittekill, and completes what the label is calling their "coloured vinyl trilogy." It's hard to discern exactly what ties these releases together, but Solé's release nonetheless remains true to his own sound: "Earth" slowly reveals its elements, content to drift along. "Beautiful Day" recalls Blaze's classic and the hazy vocals of Superpitcher's "Tomorrow" as it plots a course towards either sunrise or sunset. (It even comes complete with a bird tweeting in there too, just in case you didn't get the point.) Last, but certainly not least, "You Are My Life" injects a bit of funk into Solé's deep template, the sampled female vocalist buoyed by an upfront bassline. Yet another solid release from this underrated producer.
