Ed Davenport - Centrality

  • Share
  • Ed Davenport hasn't yet found a solid label home. Sure, Liebe*Detail has released four of the Berlin-based Englishman's 11 singles under his own name, the first of which dates back to 2006. Obviously Davenport isn't the first house producer to fall into this kind of routine. Some of the best releases in recent years have been one-off label-artist partnerships. But this label-hopping routine doesn't do him any favors either: Sometimes it's hard to track this talented producer's work down. The single's title track, "Centrality," gets this 12-inch underway with a big kick. Lush chords reminiscent of Davenport's previous Liebe*Detail efforts soon enter the fold, giving way to a short, loopy bassline. On the flip, "Spirits" slightly drops the BPM, giving Davenport a little extra room to move in the midrange. The chords stay warm like the A-side's, but a more buoyant and dynamic bassline and synth arrangement along with some nice keys makes this one the pick of the two sides. Both tracks are undoubtedly dance floor-effective tracks in their own right. They don't, however, hold their own against Davenport's previous three 2010 outings, found on NRK, Liebe*Detail or Falkplatz.
