  • Cj Bolland has recorded under many names such as the project, pulse and ravesignal to name a few. After playing an event styled gig on NYE in Melbourne he came to Sydney to play GAS. Being a techno dj of vast experience and reportoire CJ Bolland performed to an unfortunately under sized crowd on Friday night. Even for a standard GAS it was empty, let alone for an international guest dj. Drinking Stella's and smoking Lucky Strike he made it look easy, almost as if he wasn't trying, the only time he seemed to look about the state of the crowd was during a build up of his song "The Prophet", where he shouted the lyrics furiously at the crowd. My only disapointment of the night, an unfortunately major one was the minority of the crowd. While the small majority were happy enough dancing, there was always the people that hung off to one side and wouldn't even smile. This is no comment on Bolland's abilities, but certainly detracted from his set. The people on the floor however responded through all of Bolland's set. The crowd lapped it up and asked for more; his Belgian techno style he is so famous for has garnered some fans in Sydney, if they weren't his fans already. Unfortunately for me, the set seemed mediocre in it's musical value even if for almost flawless but hardly creative mixing. I've heard better, but I've heard worse, perhaps I'm not a fan of Belgian techno? I'll leave it to you to decide.
