  • Friday night saw the latest instalment of 33 & 1/3’s highly anticipated events at the Prince of Wales in Melbourne. International artists Cut La Roc and DJ Hyper graced our shores once again for what proved to be a night of break beat mayhem. As usual, crowds flocked down to the Prince, although not as many as 33& 1/3’s last sell out show featuring The Freestylers and Freq Nasty. This wasn’t a bad thing, as you could actually get to the bar without enduring a painfully long obstacle course of sweaty bodies. Finding the people you came with before the lights came on was also a hidden bonus. DJ Hyper kicked off at around 12:00 am with a great progressive set to promote his second Bedrock Breaks double CD /vinyl compilation. To say he was getting into it would be an understatement. The “newest break beat leader of the pack” bounced around and waved his arms to the beat at any given chance. It’s hard to believe he actually managed to mix records with all that air thumping! But he did, and some top tunes were banged out along the way. Cut La Roc followed and was definitely the highlight of the night. His impressive scratching and selection of party tracks sent the dance floor into frenzy. This Brighton boy definitely knows what he’s on about when it comes to breaks. Cut La Roc came to launch his new label Rocstar Recordings and after Fridays performance you can be sure Australian break beat fans will be eagerly awaiting his releases.
