Midway - Monkey Forest

  • Midway returns on the Lost Language rosters shortly after delivering his very successful remix of Solar Stone’s ‘Solarcoaster’. This time he is on the solo effort with ‘Monkey Forest’ and it comes equipped with 3 remixes. On side-a of disc one, Cultivate provide the first remix to the release. Initially the mix has a clear tougher tribal edge towards it, with a focus on the arrangement of drums and sample effects. As the mix gathers pace, a breakdown enters midway, and it’s not too shabby. A lovely arrangement of strings combined with not too over the top melodies. The beats come back in and are then combined with melodic patterns and a subtle baseline. It’s a very impressive remix and already is a contender for the best production to this release. On the flip is Midway’s Original Mix. Tougher beats are again present; however it is clear from the outset that this has more trance elements than its brother on the flip. The strings are much more obvious in the original, which is not a bad thing at all. The focus is also on the melodic synths which give it progression, however, the screeching metallic like sounds that feature early and late in the track could have been left out for the better. Side a on disc two sees young producer Greg Murray on remix duties. His mix rides the euphoric wave to success. A 4/4 pattern opens the track early as a nicely crafted breakdown enters shortly after. The original synths come in midway into the track and at this point the mix steps up a gear as all the aural components meet and then fizzle out to complete another impressive production for the young gun. Vincent & Quentin complete the list of remix on the flip. It’s the hardest remix of them all with some furiously paced beats and darker moments throughout. However, the melodic synths and subtle strings that fade in and out of the mix keep this remix from plunging too deep into darkness. Another solid review from Lost Language who seemed to have the Trance scene bombarded with quality from month to month.
