- Each of the four cuts on CVBox's debut solo EP for Uncanny Valley seems to borrow from somewhere, with pleasingly diverse results. There's a touch of Border Community-style prog in the tracks that bookend the record, for instance. "Past the Eclipse" feels at ease, its airy, tapping notes ensconced in dub-influenced swirls and moving to several gentle peaks throughout. The delicate "Orience" is a little more ominous, a mood which seems distinctly electro. Its tickling chords are reticent to show their stripes, skulking in the shadows of the track's kicks and grim synth tides.
In the middle of the record, things get sharper and heavier. "Counterflow" initially shuffles forward on fat, crunchy-sounding beats, before unexpectedly flowering in the mid-section. Its shy synths don't need to force themselves upon you; you'll find yourself paying attention as they warble along in the mid-range. "Droid Swift 836" is the closest cut to last year's debut from CVBox, "Machinematch." However, it's not nearly as relentless as that 303-powered brain drill. Rather, its acidic wrangling is subdued under a mantle of dubby fog and granulated claps.
