Pappa and Gilbey - Skindeep

  • Building and building and building and building... well you get the idea. This one is everywhere, and for particularly good reasons. "If life is an ocean, then will you sink or swim?" "Can we play a game if we know there's no way that you're going to win?" The questions have been asked, in a dark brooding New Order styled mix of classic vocals, stuttery percussion, hammering bass drums, echoing chords, and mumbled synth sweeps. Never really massive, but never really boring either, 'Skindeep' is more a pumping ride than an epic journey. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just shows what a dynamic pair these two truly are. Driven along by a whubbly strong bassline, the music echoes the vocals perfectly. The second half spins the track around and delivers a techy almost industrial floor with a massive dancefloor punch. This one is being played everywhere, and by everyone. Choo Choo is quite the label when they want to be, and this one drives it home like most others can't bear to come close to. The B-side, the dub delivers an even more peak-time friendly version with only a few vocal lines to boot. Well worth picking up and playing out. Label: Choo Choo Tracklisting: A. Skindeep (Vocal) 8:58 B. Skindeep (Dub)
