Kaytranada & Suicideyear - Bromance #10

  • Across its first nine outings, Bromance has established itself as a hotbed of eclecticism, moving from Danny Brown's slack-jawed hip-hop to the jacked-up electro of label co-founder Brodinski. Their tenth release turns to the North American beat scene, inviting young talents Kaytranada and Suicideyear onboard. Montreal-born producer Kaytranada has racked up over 1.5 million Youtube hits to date through a series of high-profile remixes, taking his low-slung style to the likes of Janet Jackson, Teedra Moses and Erykah Badu. "Free Things in Life" sticks by his usual formula. It deploys isolated chimes that drop into a stripped-back bass assault, with the collision between these elements making for a tuneful slice of glitchy hip-hop. Suicideyear's "Finale" is similarly accessible, laying pan-pipe synths and grand pads over skittish beats. It rounds off a short but sweet release that further cements Bromance as one of the more open-minded outfits out there.
