Bladey – Shaolin Funk / Missing Link

  • Bladey has been a bit of a veteran in the dance music industry, doing the rounds with tracks at labels such as Sumsonic, MOB and Minimal since the late 80’s and early 90’s. His latest works are featured on Insatiable Society, and they are yet again of a high quality. First up is Shaolin Funk and this for me is the better tracks of the two. The track builds with some nice crisp drum patterns and a few eerie effects. The first breakdown sees the introduction of a nice deep baseline that takes off once the beats come back in. Nice soothing synth effects as well as some quirky sharp synths help the track roll along nicely for the remainder, making this a pretty solid production with a good flow throughout. Good big room material. Missing Link is certainly missing the good groove and flow that Shaolin Funk had and as such is not as an effective tune for me. There are some good solid sounds in there as well as a nice array and flow to the beats, but it is certainly missing a good groove. Not a bad release by Bladey with the a-side in particular providing the shining light.
