Central - Basil

  • Central, real name Natal Zaks, is a Danish DJ and producer who runs Help Recordings alongside his brother, DJ Sports. The pair lead a flourishing crew of artists from Aarhus, Denmark, that puts out lush house records that evoke the feeling of warm summers. Zaks, in particular, has nailed this easy-going vibe. He released two records on Dekmantel last year, which, along with Help's other projects and collaborations, generated him extra visibility. Basil, Zaks' and Help's first record of 2017, is another reason to take notice. Each track shines with the same set of elements: blissed-out instruments, soft atmospheres and plush basslines. Over three tunes, Zaks weaves these subtle sounds into absorbing dance floor bombs. "Basil (Version Integrale Club)" is the pumping showstopper, with glimmering chords and flourishes topped off by a rushing key solo. "Six Moves (Only Mix)" has a tiki lounge feel, led by a strutting bassline and cheesy starlight strings that step aside for a climatic bongo breakout. The groove on "Sexi Dani (Headroom Mix)" is buoyant and gliding, this time lit up by whimsical bells, twinkling stabs and piano. Few house tracks will leave you more loved-up than this.
