  • I had being looking forward to this event all week. I was hoping for a night filed with classic anthems and the club to be filled with smiling faces saying “I remember this”, “this was played at”. There was no queue upon arrival, which at HOME nowadays is as rare as a Tiger Woods bogey, this was a pleasant surprise. I walked through the small corridor and was greeted with a semi-full dance floor bopping along to a remix of ‘good vibrations’. The music at the start was a mixture of breaks and early house. This provided the opportunity to walk around and have a look at the crowd; slightly older, more composed, even a few people sitting around tables chatting and enjoying the music. From here the night transcended into a bizarre jumble of tunes and styles of music. Instead of the successful chronological approach adopted by Sublime 4th B’day, the ‘Respect’ format lacked any fluidity. Each DJ seemed to finish with Rhythm, before the next came on to start it all again. Having 7 DJ’s playing one-hour ‘sets’ unless integrated very carefully was always going to be tricky. Young Jase’s one hour on the decks was a joy to listen to. When he dropped Timo Maas’s famous track ‘UBIK’ a smile was raised by many. Mark Dynamix proved himself again with another set of quality hard/progressive tunes. Nik Fish disappointed with an hour of mindless banging hard house/techno to finish the night off. In conclusion the lack of any sort of continuity proved the undoing of what in essence could be a very successful night. Young Jase and the extra room to move in a semi-full HOME made the night worthwhile.
