  • Detroit's Ryan Malony has quietly infiltrated techno. In the last year, he's released records on Mord, Soma and Modularz. His latest EP and its best track, "Fall Of Man," lays out why Malony's music is so attractive. "Fall Of Man" recalls the latter days of Sandwell District, when that crew had mastered their atmospheric style of techno. Set adrift on a sea of reverb, the track's main mover—aside from its grumbling bass notes, which also offer a hint of old Prologue records—is a graceful woodblock that swoops and stutters, the kind of addictive hook that turns a solid techno tune into a great one.
