Pacha Winter Sessions Vol 3

  • This double CD package, handsomely put together, shows dance music isn’t just for the sun packed summer months – it has a function all year round, and if your spirits are in need of a lift, the first of these mixes will provide it! On the decks is Spain’s Luis Lopez, with immediate Balearic warmth from the off as Open Air, Full Intention and Mix Linen get the party underway. Commercial crossovers come from Michael Gray and Soul Central (minus the vocal), while Jeremy Sylvester offers an up-for-it party anthem in ‘Got Soul’. Lopez finishes strongly also, with Black Rock’s ‘Blue Water’ a sunrise moment in the making. Angel Linde’s mix complements this really well, with some chunky house grooves for a more underground crowd, the kind of set you might hear on Subliminal. Big beats, dark keyboard stabs and big, big bass sounds are the order of the day. Rhythm Code’s ‘Hypnotic Influence’ fits all these descriptions with aplomb, but Chus & Ceballos provide the real showpiece, the ode to bass that is ‘Low Frequencies’ a New York belter. Continuing the dark theme, Saeed and Black Atlantic err towards the sinister, while the trancey break of Wally Lopez’ ‘Shakeit’ provides a fitting climax. A very strong mix album this, and a cut above your average house release. Suddenly Ibiza doesn’t feel that far off after all!
