- "Wretched." That's how the gqom pioneer Masive Q described the Durban sound in a recent piece for the Guardian. Listening to DJ Lag's excellent remix of "Ngomso," the new single by post-kwaito duo Stiff Pap and Moonchild Sanelly, you can see why. Where the original bops along pleasantly, the remix is all noise and high drama, a heady froth of crescendos and drops. The atmosphere is borderline hellish. This is funky, busted street music.
