  • Brothers Tom and Ed Russell are two busy boys. As one YouTube commenter put it, they're the "most consistent fraternal pairing since The Brothers Grimm." Spending most of their waking lives tinkering around in the studio making club-geared sonic weapons as Overmono, these Londoners have time for little else. Since releasing the well-received Everything You Need EP on XL at the tail end of last year, they've already squeezed out two fun locked groove compilations compiled by two UK mainstays (Joy Orbison and Beatrice Dillon) via their Poly Kicks label, and made it into the Grand Theft Auto franchise by way of Joy O's Slippin' Los Santos radio station with the euphoric rave track "Pieces Of 8." "Pieces Of 8" is actually one of their earliest works as Overmono (not including collaborations under the name Truss & Tessela). An unreleased staple of their live set for many years, it now receives a full release via XL. The track lives up to the GTA hype—with a deep, pulsating bassline, ecstatic vocal stabs and a hair-tingling groove, it straight-up slaps. On the B-side is "Echo Rush," a slow, colourful mood-builder that would sound perfectly delightful in a booming nightclub on a hot summer's night. Something to look forward to, then.
