Kamaal Williams - OHGOSH - AKHIRA - PART I

  • Like his keyboard playing, Henry Wu's style of MCing is forceful and full of heart.

  • As a multi-instrumentalist behind jazz fusion acts Yussef Kamaal and Kamaal Williams, Henry Wu has long radiated spiritual energy. As an MC, that becomes even clearer. Unfolding like a four-part play with each verse set to different beats, this record flexes his latent lyrical chops while highlighting his search for meaning as an artist. He's not so much rapping as he is confessing—a slow cadence that adds to the weight of his words. The tone is serious but he's not above bragging. References to his rock-solid faith and distaste for fame are interspersed with luxury living and a hefty dose of ego but the message always feels sincere.
