Henry Hyde - Save Deamen

  • Fun and flamboyant minimal from an underrated fabric resident.

  • Truly Madly's MINDHELMET label has seen the renowned DJ (who almost certainly is your favorite DJ's favorite DJ favorite DJ, ad nauseam) help spread the gospel about a number of fresh faced producers, including DMC and Arnic. And while Henry Hyde, AKA fabric resident Harry McCanna, isn't exactly unknown, MINDHELMET 06 is a welcome reminder that he is criminally slept on as a producer. The NorthSouth label boss' formula is understated but superb across the 12-inch: swung drums and bursting fluorescent synths are laid over elastic basslines bespoke for the best bass bins on the British Isle. On "Save Deaman," for example, he starts slow with an uneasy mechanical lead crescendo and broken drums but builds into an flashy break and nearly acidic chord pattern making it the EP's unlikely standout.
