- FKA twigs has been talking up techno lately, and this new cut, "Talk To Me," might be the first taste of her new direction—albeit as refracted through the twisted prism of anonymous UK duo Two Shell. It's as much of a breathless off-road ride as a track like "home," chasing a donk bassline through an increasingly frenzied, EDM-style production. twigs's voice is squashed and twisted into oblivion—with a particularly zesty touch on the filter knob—until it comes out in squeaks and gasps. Her quivering tension complements the nervous chords, and the result is a little like Charli XCX, but pre-Crash, when she was putting out some of the weirdest pop around. Lacking the keen ear for sampling of the best Two Shell songs, or the fogging-up-the-windows delivery of twigs' solo work, "Talk To Me" falls a bit short. But it's noteworthy in other ways, as the duo's first foray into bona fide pop, and twigs's way of proving she could be a house diva.
