  • Wim Wenders' recent film Perfect Days is about the beauty of life, and recognising that dual states of existence can be true simultaneously. In other words—it's ok to be happy and sad, or introverted and extroverted, at the same time. This theme also resonates with Irish artist Sloucho, whose forthcoming debut album, NPC, explores the "duality of his main character and non-playable lives." The second single from the album, "Super Marmu 2000," is named after his dog and is a tremendously fun cut of mutant techno that jitters and rolls like a fairground ride, with chipmunk-style vocals and Latin-inspired drums that alternate between 4x4 and half-time rhythms. Sloucho has a gift for melody and arrangement, weaving together UK garage, dembow, techno and rap influences. The little vocal flourishes, like side character ravers that address the listener, make you feel like you're on a journey—or playing a video game.
