Spundae Chicago NYE

  • Spundae Chicago joined forces with Another Level in Chicago to bring the only world class talent to the area for New Year's. With a large triple billing for this show, it easily outclassed other area events purely on talent alone. But Spundae had a few tricks up their sleeves for tonights show. A huge venue with 3 separate dancefloors, full scale decorations, and a few 3-watt YAG lasers to set the tone for the night. And to top it off, a 6-point Turbosound system for the main room that could make a deaf man's ears bleed. It was the first 18 year old plus show for Spundae in this area, which predicted a busy night. While the license was only until 3 am, this party was set to go off. The doors opened right at 8pm, and a line started right off the bat. The security was tight but friendly, the setup was spacious and moody, and the music was loud and pumping. There were 2 main rooms, side by side, and the sky lounge upstairs was 21+ looking over the whole spectacle, definately a room with a view. For one of the rare occasions in Chicago area history, the venue served alcohol throughout the whole venue, with an ID checkpoint securing your wristband. This was a positive bonus for the celebratory crowd, who wandered freely from room to room while the venue kept filling up. It was a slow start to the evening in terms of energy. The Spundae following was mostly a club crowd that had never been to an arena show before, and the DJ's had their work cut out for them. The people didn't really start to move until half way through Green Velvet's set. The hometown favorite built up the energy as only a professional could, and capped off his set with some of his classics, unifying the 3,000 plus crowd chanting "La La Land!!!". Thus set up breakmeister BT for his midnight madness set. As he took the stage, the energy in the room swelled straight up to the ceiling 100 feet above. For his New Year's Eve set he brought his laptop with a midi keyboard and mixed in some of his new tracks live in the mix. He played extended remixes of classics like "Dreaming" and "Flaming June" that lasted up to 15 minutes each! He rocked it hard, and set up Ferry Corsten for an amazing finish to the night. Ferry started off with a bootleg of U2's "New Years Day", which set the crowd on fire. After the extinguishers were put out, Ferry provided some solid trance tracks that were a bit progressive, a bit epic, and a bit euro, but definitely a unique style all his own. He kept up the energy until the last record, never letting the crowd down. A great night with some great talent, hopefully a sign of things to come in future New Year's Eve parties from Spundae Chicago.
