Fred Numf & Etienne Overdijk - Jamaica Skunk

  • Pumping pregressive/tech-house with a slight reggae feel to it. Early in the song, it has a very tribal feel to it with a deep bass line and some keyboard stabs on the top. Beware of the breakdown in the middle - it slows down to half the tempo and uses drum elements and effects often found in dub. Once the tempo return to the original speed, a nicely warped melody kicks in along with more bass. Pre-climax or climax, this tune rocks! On the flip, Alvin Dorsey and Nick Petrel offer up a darker, deeper version with a tribal feel to it. Slightly breaky for a progressive house track with plenty of percussion and it uses some nice bass stabs to add that dark feel. During the build up the tune gets nicely syncopated so yoiu're left wondering... is this a breaks tune or is it a progressive house tune? After the usual doof doof I hear with progressive, it's nice to hear a little variation on the sound with this release - breakdowns, halftempo sections and syncopation - most of the elements used to make 2-step/breakstep sound wicked, represent in this release
