Heavyset - Light Sound

  • Nepol Records founders Chuck Witthaus and Michelle Lucas have been around the Midwest rave scene in the United States since its inception. It’s only expected that they were bound to one day start a record label, and that label would end up a success. Now on their third release, Nepol Records has hit the jackpot with “Light Sound”. The track, written by up and coming producer Sattva (a.k.a. Jason Short), whose recent release for Florida’s Xplosion Records has been garnering international acclaim, is a sure-fire winner. He has also had a track appear on Noel Sanger’s recent Summerbreeze mix as a member of the trio Biogenesis (alongside Marc Smith and Chris Havens). “Light Sound” is another dance floor mash-up, combined tech sounds over massive tribal drums. Throw on top of that some wicked robotic sounds and one has a peak time monster on their hands. The tune breaks down, and then follows up with hellish sounding horns that could quite easily throw a packed club into frenzy. The B-side features Groove Element’s remix. This version keeps with the tribal sounds, although it strips them down for a sharper, more minimal effect. The robotic voices remain, but are altered. Various sounds echo throughout the background over a relentless drum kick. Then the dark, grooving bass line drops and the “Light Sound” remix is taken to the next level, an excellent compliment to the original version. Expect good things to come from both Nepol Records, Sattva, and Groove Element. From the small American city of St. Louis come some of the best dance floor tracks to hit the masses in 2003.
