  • I Hate Models will no longer perform at Marseille festival Le Bon Air this weekend. The festival broke the news on Instagram earlier today, May 15th, implying that the French artist's demand of travelling there via private jet was the reason for the cancellation. "No artist has ever taken a private jet to come and play at Le Bon Air Festival," the post read. "This highly polluting means of transportation consumes 50 times more CO2 than a train. It's an ecological, economic and social aberration that we systemically refuse." (Mézigue has been added to the lineup as a replacement.) In a statement sent to Resident Advisor, I Hate Models' agent described Le Bon Air's communication as "sad" and "disappointing." They said that it was always his intention to cover the full cost of the jet and they only asked the festival to cover the cost of airport transfers. "As I Hate Models had another gig in Germany the same night as the festival, it was agreed that we would manage transport with a buy-out," the statement explained. "So we worked on a solution of a private jet as it was the only option that would ensure he arrived in time for his set time in Marseille." "We never asked the festival to cover any of these costs," they continued. "Not to book anything, we took the private jet option because it was the only option for I Hate Models to arrive in time for his set at Le Bon Air. He was really looking forward to playing for his fans and didn't want to let anyone down—even if it meant he had to pay for the private jet himself. He also offered to re-buy his CO2 emissions to make up for this at his own costs." Starting this Friday, May 17th, Le Bon Air takes place at a former tobacco factory in the Belle de Mai area of the city. Ben UFO, DJ Gigola, Floating Points and Roza Terenzi are among the other artists booked to play. Read both statements in full.
"As I Hate Models had another gig in Germany the same night as the festival, it was agreed that we would manage transport with a buy-out. So we worked on a solution of a private jet as it was the only option that would ensure he arrived in time for his set time in Marseille. We arranged the private jet on behalf of I Hate Models. Le Bon Air was not involved and also was never asked to pay for it. We only asked them to pick him up at the airport in Marseille. Le Bon Air asked us to change the departure of the private jet to earlier in order to arrive a bit before his slot at the festival, which we arranged. Then suddenly now said to us they didn't want him to come by jet at all, that it was against their values, which to us is very confusing since it's not clearly told or written anywhere and they also asked us to change the arrival time of the jet. We never asked the festival to cover any of these costs. Not to book anything, we took the private jet option because it was the only option for I Hate Models to arrive in time for his set at Le Bon Air. He was really looking forward to playing for his fans and didn't want to let anyone down—even if it meant he had to pay for the private jet himself. He also offered to re-buy his CO2 emissions to make up for this at his own costs." We're very sad and disappointed of the communication of Le Bon Air, and I Hate Models is of course very sad to not be able to play for the people who bought a ticket to see him. This is why he did everything he could to arrive in time for his set to not let any of his fans down." Photo: mdxtra
