Toren is a temporary cultural cafe/club located directly behind Amsterdam's Central Station, open until June 2014 only. It can be reached by a quick free ferry which departs Central Station every few minutes day and night, every day of the year, and boasts spectacular views of the IJ, two Funktion One sound systems, a 24/7 license, a wide range of drinks from small local producers, delicious food and coffee all day, and of course free wifi.
Quality and diversity are the programming watchwords, resulting in a calendar packed with club nights, live music and bands, improvisations, theatre, jazz, poetry, exhibitions (both static and interactive), a midnight market, workshops and more.
The iconic tower building - known as Overhoeks - was built as global headquarters for Shell in 1970, on a restricted site once used to administer punishment to traitors and other criminals. With its exceptionally open character, and thousands of happy memories made in its short time trading - including a couple becoming engaged on opening night! - Toren is the nicest thing that ever happened in this location.
