A founder of Box of Kittens and the Pfand record label with partner Yapacc of Perlon, Hali has made a name for himself with recent appearances at noted Berlin institutions such in the Berghain complex, Tresor, Arena, Weekend and also Chalet. An origina..
Hali first heard House music explode from the speakers of a local new wave club in Downtown Toronto when it first arrived, straight from the ghettos of Chicago. In the years that followed, he attended many of the influential warehouse parties of the day – rubbing shoulders with the likes of Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, and 808 State – including the Go Bang! warehouse in Amsterdam and one of the original Orbital raves in London with the Chemical Brothers, Darren Emerson, and of course, Orbital on the bill. In Toronto, he worked with the largest concert promoters in Canada, and was a team leader at Lollapalooza from 1992 to 1995, supporting artists such as Moby. Hali was privileged to experience the behind-the-scenes making of House and Techno from very early on.
Since those early days, everything Hali has touched has been magic. In 1995, he signed a recording contract with Silent Records over the Internet—an Internet first—while his tracks reached number 1 on College Radio Dance charts. In 1998, he received the highly regarded Editor's Pick in Future Music for his music production, and received critical acclaim for producing artists such as Decoded Feedback for Talla 2XLC's Music Research Germany.
In 1999, after his contract netcasting Dose and Lifeforce's massive Connected raves, Hali founded the award-winning Netmusique Internet radio station, which currently reaches over 1 million listeners per month. He received international attention with his acclaimed radio show 'Cold Tea' each Thursday night at 9 pm EST on Netmusique Electrique, ranking Top 3 for Minimal Techno by AOL/SHOUTcast. He has made many radio appearances including on Toronto's CIUT 89.5 FM, 1groove.com, Windsor's CJAM 91.5 FM for a live DEMF special, as well as internationally televised performances on CBC, MuchMusic, Discovery Channel, and the Life Network.
Spinning an infectious blend of Raw, Deep, Minimal Techno and Tech House, Hali draws from his House music ethos, carried over from his experience running the Poundhouse promotion company from 1998–2004. He appears regularly at Toronto's top underground Techno events and has performed around the globe. Hali's ability to play unique yet accessible sets has seen him at after parties for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF), Grammy Awards, and top-tier fashion shows.
In April 2008, Hali performed at the internationally renowned Full Moon Festival on Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand. His guest appearance on the island's largest sound system, at Full Moon originators’ The Rock, drew the attention of the local music industry and international party-goers alike and helped earn him an enthusiastic residency at Mellow Mountain Bar, overlooking the stunning soft white sands of Haadrin's Sunrise Beach.
Hali has been privileged to perform alongside some of the most respected Deep House and Deep Techno artists, including Rolando, Carl Craig, Marc Romboy, Martinez, Lee Burridge, Nick Curly, M1, Soulgrabber, Jay-J, Boo Williams, Miguel Migs, Junior Boys, Marshall Jefferson, The Rurals, Kevin Yost, Dubtribe Sound System, Alton Miller, Matthias Heilbronn, DJ Sneak, and Joris Voorn.
Hali continues to DJ at select events, where he is regarded as an accomplished visionary. Through collaboration and partnership with its underground community, including his members-only loft and warehouse parties, Box of Kittens, Hali remains a key player in Toronto's thriving underground dance music scene.
In 2012, Hali relocated to Berlin, Germany where he continues the Box of Kittens moniker and has started the vinyl record label Pfand with production partner Yapacc of the Perlon family.
