A DJ, producer, event planner, and night owl, Mantas is a man in love with a sound that is in love with your body.
With his infectious energy, sophisticated ear, and tireless dedication, Mantas Steles is a rising star of Chicago’s underground dance music scene. A DJ, producer, event planner, and night owl, Mantas is a man in love with a sound that is in love with your body. Think: gentle kicks, closed high hats, whispered, seductive vocals, loopy, circus bass.
Sonically wise beyond his years, Mantas pushes the boundaries of Chicago’s audio palette. His sets mix classic house and the newest techno party jams with the warped world of artists like Melchior and Ricardo. Fans from Chicago and beyond have flocked to hear Mantas in ever-rising numbers. And as those who have witnessed his marathon after-party sessions know so well, it’s clear that the Stallion’s magic really works.
Soon after moving to the Windy City from his hometown of Kaunas, Lithuania at the tender age of 18, Mantas attended his first warehouse party. The rest is history. Being a regular guest at Smart Bar, one of the oldest and most respected clubbing institutions in North America, and having played for such local promoters as Paradigm, Volatl, MiM and Varsity All Stars at various venues around town, Mantas’s latest accomplishment is a residency at Chicago's Spybar, one of the world's foremost purveyors of electronic music. By performing with artists as diverse as Raresh, Jan Krueger, and Martin Buttrich, Mantas has carefully honed his sound, tailoring his style to the event while still keeping things all his own. Having already spread his musical knowledge and unparalleled taste to places like Baum in Bogotá, Output and Verboten in New York, TV Lounge and Leland City Club in Detroit, and the list keeps on growing.
The last few years have seen big things for Mantas and his crew. In addition to working on production, in the fall of 2012 Mantas teamed up with his fellow partner in crime Max Jacobson to bring Tied to life - a party series that has already hosted the talents of D'julz, Giles Smith, DeWalta, Priku, Anthea, Masomenos, Virginia, Federico Molinari, Anthony Collins and many more. Tied Collective was born in 2014 with the addition of Ari Frank to the team, and the boys went on to follow their dream and start their own record label in the fall of 2015. Selected as "Best nomadic collective for underground techno" by critics of Chicago Reader later that same year, the trio keeps on pushing boundaries of expectations. As dance music spirals into the mainstream, Tied keeps Windy City well anchored to its underground roots.
Spring of 2015 has also seen Mantas's first release finally come to life in collaboration with Max Jacobson on Frankfurt's Baile Musik imprint, with two stripped down, dance floor ready tracks titled "Now You See Me" and "Guinea Pig". Still taking time to perfect his craft, but following his deep beliefs and vision, Mantas has got some exciting projects lined up for the rest of 2016 by himself, as well as a part of Tied Collective together with Ari and Max. Forever young, forever strong... there is no telling what’s in store for Mantas’s future.
