soulsearching is receiving constantly growing tremendous feedback from around the world, be it for creating the right atmosphere for the listeners, playing the upcoming and exclusive fave or dropping the odd techno tune next to a weird jazz classic. And his special tribute shows for the likes of J Dilla, Michael Jackson, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Mayfield or Teddy Pendergrass plus the features and live interviews with up and coming artists or legends like Mulatu Astatke (2007) are much appreciated and well received. Radio the way he sees it since dreaming of doing a show as a little boy, when he sat in front of the tape recorder, recording AFN shows or going through his mothers record collection. His main interest here is to share the good stuff with the audience who trusts his taste and digs the his endless love for music. This has also be done in 10.000 miles in the air via a special onboard programme of his show for Delta Airlines.
Over the years he put together numerous compilations for labels like Infracom or Compost and produced as Soulpatrol (with Max Schneider aka Soulspy) releases like the now classic „Love EP“ (INFRACom! 2001) & remixes for Peter Kruders Peace Orchestra, Fritz Pauer (MPS Remixed), Beanfield, Sidewinder, The Dining Rooms, Cleveland Watkiss, Little Dragon (unreleased) & Jazzanova (unreleased) to name but a few.
Currently Michael is stepping into the world of producing again. More to come in 2010/2011.
As a DJ he represents the original old school freestyle approach from back in 1977 when he started playing records at his parents parties. A little bit of Paradise Garage & The Loft vibe mixed up with the here and now. Its the tune that counts, not the genre. If its good, you will hear it on soulsearching and in his unique and never prepared sets. It's all about the atmosphere and going with the flow.
Ps.: some might call him the „german Gilles Peterson“ – he does not like this...but ihas become a close friend of the freestyle & radio don. Most recently he got more and more into that cuban vibe which Peterson set with his „Havana Cultura“ compilations, diggin in his crates and pulling out the afrocuban and latin tunes again, like back in the acid jazz days, and mixing them up with the latest joints, be it house, hiphop or afrobeat excursions...
