Musica Sequenza was launched by Burak Özdemir in New York in 2008, standing for the innovation in classical music. The Ensemble is engaged in developing an inter-cultural artistic movement with global production partners.
Musica Sequenza was founded by Burak Özdemir at The Juilliard School in New York in 2008, standing for the innovation of baroque music. The ensemble is engaged in developing an intercultural artistic movement with musicians, singers, dancers, choreographers, visual artists, architects, designers and filmmakers all around the globe and to date they have created over 50 productions worldwide. Musica Sequenza performs on period instruments of the 18th century and works in an international and continually increasing network with global partners such as opera houses, festivals, concert halls, municipal theaters, art foundations and museums. Musica Sequenza presents performances with a repertoire from Renaissance to the contemporary composers. The ensemble participates in today’s global art scene with inter-disciplinary productions of baroque, new music, electro-acoustic, modern dance, conceptual performance and experimental music theater.
In 2018 Musica Sequenza celebrated its 10th anniversary. Toast to this unique year, the memoire of milestones of their repertoire such as “Bach: The Silent Cantata” (2012) and “Sampling Baroque” (2015) were highly praised in Germany as well as abroad. For the anniversary the ensemble premiered a new Bach production “Atlas Passion” in coproduction with Stadttheater Schaffhausen Switzerland and performed their signature programs at venues, where Musica Sequenza shared long-term partnerships such as Radialsystem V, International Bach Festival Schaffhausen, Borusan Culture & Art Foundation and Berghain.
International stars like Sasha Waltz, Rolando Villazon, Larisa Navojec and Van Rivers as well as artists from Europe, Middle East, North and South America and Asia cooperate in ensemble’s projects. Among the years, Musica Sequenza performed live at Konzerthaus Berlin, Istanbul Music Festival, Händel Festspiele Halle, Oranjewoud Festival, Thüringer Bach Wochen, Bach Akademie Stuttgart, Alice Tully Hall, Sisyphos, Wagenhallen, Kammgarn, Umspannwerk, Berlin Biennale and others spaces and festivals.
Commissioned by the Grand Palais Museum Paris in 2014, Musica Sequenza recorded music by Burak Özdemir and Spanish baroque composers for the Diego Velazquez world tour Exhibition, followed by an international DVD Release.
In 2013 Burak Özdemir & Musica Sequenza joined Sasha Waltz & Guests at the Festival d’Avignon for the world premiere of the work “Dialoge” with Burak Özdemir’s original score. The work included Özdemir’s own sound recordings from Istanbul Gezi Park demonstrations and the performance was dedicated to Gezi Events around the world.
Since 2012 the recordings of Musica Sequenza have been released by Deutsche Harmonia Mundi / Sony labels including many world premieres of Burak Özdemir’s recompositions and original scores together with Grammy awarded producer Da-Hong Seetoo. The ensemble releases have earned an outstanding reputation by the world press: “Vivaldi “ The New Four Seasons” (2012), “Bach : The Silent Cantata” (2013), “Rameau a la Turque” (2014), “Sampling Baroque / Handel” (2016).
