Transparent Sound are Orson Bramley and Martin Bundock. They formed in 1994 and are one of the UK's longest running electro acts. Having grown up on hip hop, electro, '70s electronica & legends Visage & Cabaret Voltaire, they set about creating their own unique electro sound.
Orson Bramley is best known as the baseball-capped half of UK electrofunk pioneers Transparent Sound. But there’s more to him than that.
As well as co-running successful new record label Orson Records (with long-time friend Martin Bundock), Orson has been DJing for 18 years, having grown up during the heady days of acid house’s first wave in 1987/88. Originally a fan of early electro acts and the breakin’ scene that accompanied it, he was turned on by the illicit electronic thunk and hypnotic grooves of house and techno. Not that he completely lost touch with his roots: in the early Nineties Orson was a member of legendary UK hip hop act/breakdance crew Severe Carnage.
These days Orson’s DJ style takes in various flavours of electronic funk: glitchy, minimal house, jackin’ electronic 4/4, acid, Detroit tech and, of course, straight-up electro.
Transparent Sound have recently signed a single/album deal with Exceptional Records. An EP ‘Variations Of An Attitude’ is out now, with the ‘Haircut Fantasy’ LP forthcoming on September 26th.
Martin has been working with Orson on their long term project, Transparent Sound since 1995. He studied classical guitar and double bass as a teenager, playing in several youth orchestras. He also played in many indie style rock bands before he turned his attentions to electronica.
Martin also DJs with Nick Hill as the Ministrone of Sound which is based in his home town Bognor Regis. They are well known for their "specialist" nights which involve races, dancing competitions, tune spotting and alot of drinking!
