Truth and Lies are event curators, DJ's and champions of international music and culture.
We bring together music, art, film, live music, design, talks and food to create events that connect all the senses and introduce audiences to extraordinary sounds, tastes, people and places.
We were formed in 2013 by music producer and DJ Ex-Friendly (Justin Turford) and designer & DJ Joff Casciani.
Exploring international music past and present, we’ve been busy with residencies at Rough Trade, curating events and supporting leading international acts such as Aux 88, the Sun Ra Arkestra, BCUC and the Hot 8 Brass Brand as well as headlining the Trenchtown Stage at Africa Oye Festival for the last 5 years.
In 2017, Craig Richards and Gottwood asked us us to curate the Old Gramophone stage on Saturday at the inaugural Houghton Festival in August 2017. We curated, DJed and ran a 14 hour takeover of music, film and talks called ‘Revolution and Change: Venezuela and the Tropics’. The event concluded with a 6 hour DJ set of international rhythms inspired by the region. We did it again in 2018 with a standout all day session under the title ‘Africa Is Everywhere’. With special guests SNO, Dr Horn and Afrodisiac we as DJ Mag wrote ‘had people dancing on tables by early afternoon’.
“I can’t count how many amazing comments I have had back about your event, everyone found it a relieving break from the more heads down sounds and really went away with some amazing memories. It was a pleasure to work with a group of people that just got on with it” Tom Elkington - Director, Gottwood and Houghton Festival
