One of the most popular and technically sound DJs in Hong Kong, Wendy Wenn first caught the electronic bug during the heady days of the late-90s. Fascinated by the myriad roller discos that existed back then she began to lose herself in the funk and rhythm of the winding melodies and bass lines and her path was irrevocably set; Wenn quickly invested in a trusty pair of Technics and a mixer and began scouring the record shops in town to track down all things house and breaks as the new century raced ahead and the local clubbing scene began to grow and evolve.
Present day Hong Kong, and Wenn is most known as one of the foremost residents at Yumla – Hong Kong’s premier joint for the crispest techno, and which has just been voted by Time Out Hong Kong as the Best Local Club for 2010. Time Out has also included her as a featured artist on the DJ Box pod cast and has described her as ‘one to watch.’ Over the years she has played at classic venues such as C-Top and Club Magazine, as well as Vertigo, W52 and other underground parties organized by the Beatsuite and Robot crews. Her deep knowledge of the music, her lively personality and tight mixing skills have also seen her play in clubs all across the Asia region, from Japan and Thailand to the Mainland, playing stand-alone sets as well as supporting the likes of Lee Burridge, Martin Eyerer, Tom Clark, Jonas Kopp, Charles Siegling (Technasia), Phillip Jung (M.A.N.D.Y.), H.O.S.H, Nils Nilson, Kasierdisco , Frank Monoroom, Marko Furstenberg, Fredrik Borgesius(Global Underground), Toshiyoshi NKJ, and DJ Godfather.
Always on the cusp of the future sound, Wenn has since created a unique, under-stated style that sits somewhere between chilled down tempo and deep, dark bass – focusing more recently on the burgeoning sounds of minimal techno and tech-house that have oozed out of Europe and the States. She has taken the intricate sounds that have infected a whole generation of DJs, producers and clubbers in Asia and formed her own style - both in the club and in the studio.
