A WEEKEND OF QUALITY OF EVENTS CELEBRATING 15 YEARS OF THE FACTORY CLUB (FORMERLY MEDICINE BAR) IN BIRMINGHAM.
THE FACTORY CLUB CLOSING WEEKENDER……. APRIL BANK HOLIDAY WEEKENDER (FRI 2nd APRIL – SUN 4TH APRIL 2010)
Unfortunately, the rumours are true…The Factory Club (formerly known as Medicine Bar) at the Custard Factory is closing down..... The new decade heralds a different direction for the Custard Factory and that is the development of the site as a more of an office based environment. As a result, the dark underground club space set around the charismatic lake in the courtyard of the Custard Factory will be winding down as potential investors look at the space along the lines of restaurants/studios etc…
Lakeside Marquee events will still happen for one off special events but these will be fewer and far between.... but it’s not all bad news…. Music events will still take place in Space 2 (the Custard Factory Warehouse) which has had a new overhaul and the development of the railway arches….. This is an exciting prospect in itself and no doubt will be the location for many good times ahead! However, the days of the Factory Club space (The former Medicine Bar) and Kitchen being the regular host to your hedonistic night out are unfortunately numbered!
There’s only one way to end this… after 15 years of the most forward thinking music events Birmingham has ever seen…. On a high note! Eclectricity will be putting on a weekend of absolute monster parties over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend 2010 featuring... RICARDO VILLALOBOS, HIGH CONTRAST, SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO, LAURENT GARNIER & more teaming up with a number of brands who have played an integral part in the venues history. It’s all about celebrating the life and times of one of the most influential venue’s in Birmingham's alternative music scene.
We have tried to represent what the Factory Club/Medicine Bar always stood for....forward thinking, credible music artists as well as some of the classic names.
The Custard Factory lake with the world famous marquee over the top will be setup across the whole weekend with top notch level lighting and sound (anyone who attended any of the Electric City series or any of our previous events knows what to expect!) along with the Factory Club aka Medicine Bar and Kitchen.... This will sadly be the last time you will be able experience this!!
This set of dates means a lot to us.... Some of the most memorable nights Birmingham has ever witnessed have taken place here and it has been nothing short of an inspiration for the cities alternative independent music culture; away from the corporate watering holes in areas such as Broad St and Arcadian etc.
It’s a sad loss to Birmingham’s nightlife and there’s only one way to end it…. in style..... with an almighty send off to end all send off’s… and that’s what this Easter weekender is about.
To be frank it would be rude not to!.... It's the end of an era!!!!!

We kick off the closing weekender on Good Friday 2nd April with the debut of RICARDO VILLALOBOS and CASSY who will be rocking out the Custard Factory Marquee in same vein that Sven and Dubfire did on Easter weekend 2009… and everyone knows how good that party was…not to mention Luciano & Loco Dice at the Q Club in October… which was arguably as good!
RICARDO is one of the true pioneers of the recent resurgence of techno…a headliner for Cocoon in Ibiza and regular at the likes of Timewarp and any underground music institution worth mentioning. He is a true lynchpin in the scene and his UK appearances are few and far between, down to the fact he is one of the most in demand DJ’s on the circuit! It’s taken us over 4 years to tempt him to the UK’s second city so don’t miss this rare opportunity.
The Factory Club space will be in the hands of SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO with an exclusive DJ set… keeping it electronic and glitchy in the way they now best!… They headlined the second Eclectricity Festival using the whole of the Custard Factory site with over 3,500 people turning up in 2007 so this is an extremely rare intimate appearance from them. Their Birmingham debut was in this very room way back in 2005 and they will no doubt once again shake the Factory club space to it’s foundations for one of the last ever parties in this prestigious space!
So our advice, book the Friday off work… oh it happens to be GOOD FRIDAY so no need for the majority… as most people are already off as the first UK public bank holiday for 2010! Plus we have a cheeky little pre party lined up not to mention the standard legendary after party where something magic always seems to happen!?….No excuses now…. Be part of it!!!
