March 2010 – The Smirnoff Co. is pleased to announce the details of Kreatures, an exciting nightlife event set to hit the UK showcasing radical animatronics and electronic music. Get ready for a synthesis of music and machine - a living, breathing installation where the walls literally have eyes!
Promoters Leigh Brzeski, Augustus Greaves and their forward-thinking technological team have been awarded a £5,000 Creative Grant as part of The Smirnoff Co.’s ongoing commitment to celebrate unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experiences – the type you look back on and say ‘I was there’. In keeping with the 24 original nights that the vodka brand has previously supported through the initiative, Kreatures promises to be truly memorable.
Kreatures animatronics Meets Bass - a one off high tech, electronic music, film, art, party. Bringing together incredible ultra realistic animatronics, cutting edge electronic music, innovative performance and state of the art visuals – this is a night for the Kreatures by the Kreatures.
UKs hottest animatronics talents - John Nolan, Gustav Hoegen and Josh Head have designed an entourage of ultra-realistic animatronic Kreatures to be perfectly synced to live music performances. Having
designed and built animatronics for everyone from Chris Cunningham to Spike Jonze to Terry Gilliam and Guillermo Del Toro, their skill and vision is recognised by some of the most creative people on the
Having designed and built technology for world-famous directors and blockbuster movies such as Star Wars and The Clash of The Titans, animatronics experts John Nolan, Tristan Schoonraad and Gustav Hoegen are to create a unique night incorporating music, film and art. Guests will party beside the strangest beings they have ever encountered: ultra realistic animatronic figures driven by cutting edge electronic music.
John is currently creating two new high-end robotic creatures for the event which will join his wierd and wonderful, giant, moving ‘Mouth’ alongside an army of creations fresh from his workshop. Motors will be converted from analogue to midi using circuitry, allowing full control using any midi controller/instrument. For example, a hit on a drum could open a mouth, a keyboard could operate a tongue. Audio waveforms control a full working head with pre-recorded expression - every movement in perfect sync to the track.
The bizarre robotic Kreatures, bespoke VJ sets, extraordinary set design and performers will transform the space into a fully immersive, one-of-a-kind experience. Machines and humans alike can dance the night away to sets from the exceptional electronic music producers -Untold and InterKt.
This cutting edge idea was hand-picked from the hundreds of creative individuals who applied to win one of the four bursaries available via The Smirnoff Co’s dedicated Facebook page. Nightlife luminaries Rob da Bank of Radio 1, DJ duo The Queens of Noize, second generation music mogul Oliver Wilson, nightlife correspondent Rahul Verma and Clash Magazine’s Matthew Bennett made up the vodka brand’s panel of experts who selected winners.
Working with up-and-coming promoters at grassroots level the Smirnoff Creative Grants initiative gives thousands of party people an experience they will never forget. In 2010, London, Brighton and Cornwall will see the future of nightlife in action as the chosen four turn their ideas into a reality.
Rob da Bank comments
“Smirnoff Creative Grants is one of the best things out there in the UK club and festival market, for people that want to make something of their career. It’s the chance of a lifetime for people with totally original ideas to get the cash from Smirnoff to follow it through and realise their vision.
