[Phil Lucas/Paddy Towe]
It all began in the summer of 2006 on a field in Keady at the Home Made Jam Festival where Paddy Towe, Phil Lucas & Chris McGinn all met and played together for the first time. Realising they all shared the similar tastes in underground dance music and with the lack of dance nights in Belfast at that time, the lads decided to set up their own house and techno night, leading to Twitch being formed.
Within a few weeks they put their first night on in the now defunct Larry’s Piano Bar coinciding with a live mix on BBC’s Across The Line to launch the first party.
After a brief stint in Larrys the next port of call was Laverys Attic, which became home to Twitch for nearly two years. The night’s main focus was booking local dj talent from around the city while also booking more renowned artists such as Marc Ashken, Kevin Gorman, Tadeo and Perc.
After 2 successful years at Laverys, the guys decided it was time for a change of venue and moved to the Stiff Kitten where they played alongside a long list of world-class dance acts: Ben Sims, Derrick Carter, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Efdemin, Damian Schwartz, Loco Dice, Christian Smith, and the Wighnomy Brothers amongst others. Various appearances in Shine also ensued playing New Years Eve twice and the Shine Birthday.
With co-founder Chris McGinn on sabbatical in Australia, Twitch as a group
are on somewhat of a hiatus at the minute. The 2 remaining members now have
their own separate new residencies, both at The Menagerie.
Paddy plays alongside Jet Project's Timmy Stewart and John McIver at the recently
formed 'Unit' night. While Phil starts his new night called 'Werk' commencing on the 31st July.
Catch this rare appearance by the lads at Morrisons on Bedford Street, the street
where it all began nearly 4 years ago. Support comes from JP McGuckin, Liam Gray
and Dave Southwell, on what is shaping up to be a great night of house music!
