The home of AAA welcomes a legend of the UK dance scene and a proper party animal, Barry Ashworth of Dub Pistols fame. Supporting is our very own jet setting, world dominating resident DJ, Featurecast.
BARRY ASHWORTH (DUB PISTOLS)
Barry Ashworth gained noteriety through his work with the Dub Pistols, yet he has been part of the UK dance scene since 1986. A former club promoter, it was a summer spent in Ibiza that saw him catch the rave bug. On his return he set up Naked Lunch and Eat The Worm, two ecstacy induced club nights that helped usher in the Summer of Love in 1988. Ashworth then decieded to hit the turntables himself whilst forming indie band Deja Vu (a London take on the rock and indie fusions of the Happy Mondays and Stone Roses). After the disbandment of Deja Vu came the forming of the infamous Dub Pistols, fusing soul and reggae sounds with big beats. This gained him international success, touring the UK, US and beyond!! 2010 saw a resurgence for the Dub Pistols with many dates in the UK and across Europe.
A producer and DJ of repute, Ashworth is a seasoned expert in all forms of dancefloor demolition. His DJ sets are the stuff of legends, chopping up the beats with samples and accapellas which show the creativity and party ethos of the man himself. Last year saw him play for Camp Bestival plus the Notting Hill carnival. With him now entering his fourth decade in the industry, he shows no signs of slowing down with appearances for major breaks label Ghetto Funk. Are you ready to party?!
Supporting Ashworth is a man we are very proud to call our AAA resident. One of the success stories of the Southampton dance scene, Featurecast (Lee Mintram) has been a favourite amongst our regulars for many years now. An outstanding DJ and tune selector, his scratching skills are mind blowingly good.
A major contributor for Good Groove Records, things have really taken off for Featurecast over the past year, touring Australia, Brazil, Canada and across Europe. Nominated annually at the Breakspoll Awards for 'Best Producer', he's created a unique Featurecast sound that has seen him top the Juno Download charts, with his 'Channel Surfing' single being used on the Apple iPod TV advert.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Featurecast news as this man will blow up big time in 2011!!
Orange Rooms new little sister bar gatecrashes the celebrations to bring you one monster birthday party. DJ Wrongtom hits the decks alongside another of our awesome AAA residents who's making a name for himself, B-Side.
A DJ and record producer from South London, Wrongtom is guaranteed to rock the dance floor. Whether it be on 4 decks or the standard 2, he keeps the party going playing the unexpected, ranging through hip hop, dancehall, disco dubs, punk-funk, indie-pop and everything inbetween!!
Toms DJ schedule has seen him travel across the globe, playing in a variety of venues from sweaty basements to churches, and even a former Yugoslavian army barracks!! Back in the early noughties he gained chart success working with indie-pop band Hard-Fi, touring as their warm-up DJ plus aiding the production of their number 1 selling LP 'Stars Of CCTV'.
His latest album has seen Tom work with none other than Roots Manuva, adding another dimension to his sound. Blending a whole variety of influences into one amazing mixdown, you'll be left in awe!!
A young man who is taking the breaks world by storm, the last 6 months have seen B-Side (Ben Owens) make major inroads into the world of bass and breaks.
Having been involved in the music scene since an early age, he entered the dance music world back in 2000 as a drummer for Southamptons very own Surreal Madrid. This saw him perform alongside acts such as Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Bentley Rhythm Ace and Layo & Bushwacka!
It wasn't long before he caught the DJ bug and he hasn't looked back since. A regular here at Orange Rooms (AAA/Quids In), B-Side has also held residencies at Rhino (Audio) and Mono, playing alongside such heavyweights as Jaguar Skills, Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, A-Skillz & Krafty Kuts.
It was a natural progression to enter the studio and start producing his own material. This has proved to be a great move with releases for Ghetto Funk and Boogie Boutique Records (with his latest Artist EP 1 hitting the number 1 spot in the Juno Download Breaks Chart), plus collaborations with Featurecast and Russ Cuban.
B-Side is gaining the recognition he deserves, with a recent appearance at the Breakspoll Awards, plus a debut appearance at the world famous Fabric on the 25th March alongside Ali B. This boys gonna be huge, you saw him here first!!!
