The Crystal Ark:
The latest creative vision from artist, producer and synthesizer magician Gavin Russom and performer/NYC nightlife legend Viva Ruiz, The Crystal Ark is a 9-piece psychedelic orchestra that unleashes the perfect distillation of Carioca Funk, atabaque drumming, Tropicalia and South American style rave, synthesizing these sounds into infectious, spellbinding dance floor music.
Backing Russom and Ruiz is an all-star group of musicians featuring Matt Thornley who has been involved in basically everything DFA and LCD Soundsystem has produced since 2004, bassist Tyler Pope who has appeared on albums by Cake, !!!, LCD Soundsystem, Hercules and Love Affair, Franz Ferdinand Simian Mobile Disco, amongst others, and percussionist Alberto Lopez who has worked with Rubén Blades, Celia Cruz, Ozomatli, The Brand New Heavies and even The Dalai Lama. Singers Jaiko Suzuki, Sokhna Heather Mabyn and dancers Irene Deros and Alberto Cortes round out the group.
This performance will also feature stunning visual projections and video effects created by Bec Stupak of Honeygun Labs.
Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello are Williamsburg Brooklyn's answer to the reemergence of new romantics. Like their predecessors, they have a penchant for walking on the dark side while carrying the torch to new dawns of rapturous, post-punk, new wave and industrial sounds. LIGHT ASYLUM is a musical echoing from the past reverberating against mans foreshadowing, apocalyptic plight, to destroy what light is still being held up high to guide us all inward and homeward. As a beacon is to sailors lost to a battle with the sea, beats, synths and vocals come in waves leading listener ashore in the darkest of nights.
