London based Dj/producer Callum, born in 89, has had a
long love affair for music and the emotional experience it
Not restricted by the usual genres, his impeccable taste
always delivers. Determined to only play, not just 'new',
but 'good' music.
Regularly playing sets in and around London this young
producer is definitely one to keep you eye on.
From around the age of 8, my influences were the Two Tone ska scene, then into the early 80's I started listening to the early electro sounds coming out of the US, then moved into the early Chicago house sound, Detroit Techno, and New York garage.
From around 1986, I started collecting vinyl in the above mentioned genres. From 1988 onwards, I got into the club scene of the time, which was the underground Acid House revolution, and going clubbing in London, and taking extended breaks to the island of Ibiza.
This lead me to buying my first pair of Technics, and learning to mix the vinyl I was already purchasing. From there I progressed to organizing my first event, along with two other Dj friends, in late 1989. The event was well attended and received, because it was completely novel, and from there progressed to Djing regular evenings at a new club which opened in my local city. In fact, I Dj'ed there on the opening night, and played there on and off for 5 years.
Because this club was so successful, at attracting people from all over the UK, it enabled me to get more work around the surrounding region, particularly in Birmingham, which is the UK's second largest city.
To begin with, my style was influenced by the Chicago, New York, and Detroit sounds of that time. I've continued to play, and be influenced by those sounds over the past couple of decades, and various British and European sounds, and genres, which include:
Chicago acid, jacking Chicago house, deep Chicago house, Detroit techno,New York garage and house, British house and techno, European house and techno, Belgian new beat, British break beat, drum and bass, jungle, and trip hop.
Currently the genres I'm playing include:
Deep tech house, techno, deep house, acid, and garage.
