DAVE the Drummer, Deathpod (RSK, Doverspike & Rockso), 7UP vs Clevr, Product 19, Naoko, DJ Meghan, Eryn Evans, Black Daddy, Kilo, Smartie, Da MoFo
An all ages dual celebration of Product 19 and DaMoFo's birthdays launching a new series of events in which we challenge the norm by requiring the headlining act to play 2 sets: one featuring the style the artist is known for and one set of a style the artist is not.
First act to take this on is D.A.V.E. the Drummer (real name Henry Cullen), a cherished institution of the British electronic music scene for the past 18 years. Having produced or engineered every subgenre of EDM for other acts or as originals and remixes under his various guises, Cullen has appeared several times on Beatport Charts and DJ Mag’s prestigious Top 100 DJs poll. Releases on his techno label, Hydraulix, and his minimal electronic label, Mutate To Survive, are staples in the record boxes of the most elite including Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and numerous others.
However, Cullen’s skills are reaching beyond his original circles of techno. His production skills have seen him slowly become known for bassline driven sounds such as electro house and dubstep with recent remixes of him producing these genres appearing on BBC’s Radio 1 Network and the global EDM blogosphere acquiring hundreds of thousands of plays.
Why has Cullen chosen Pittsburgh as one of the first cities to premiere his new musical identity?
‘I’ve always liked playing in America. The audience is always receptive to fresh sounds, and after having played the biggest events in the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast over the years, I felt Pittsburgh was the perfect spot to drop a set of classic material people come to expect from me and another set of the genres I’m currently exploring. It seems to be a progressive city in the middle of everything that’s cool.’
Add to this the debut performance of dubstep supergroup Deathpod led by the globally recognized and locally-based RSK with Doverspike and Rockso plus sets from rising LGBT club favourite & recently DC Records-signed electrohouse DJ/producer Eryn Evans, House of Styles’ founder DJ Product 19 returning from lands afar to celebrate his birthday with Japanese techno starlet Naoko and local club veterans 7UP & Clevr among others, and you have a 2 room dance party with wide variation of styles unlike others this city has seen for years.
