AMSTERDAM OPEN AIR THE WEEKENDER – Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th 2012
The city festival by AIR, MTV, GirlsLoveDJs, Carnivale and Apenkooi
After the massively successful premiere of Amsterdam Open Air in 2011, it was clear that a follow up was inevitable. The sequel in recreational area Gaasperpark will mark the beginning of the outdoor season in Amsterdam on Whitsun weekend, Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th. This edition will be expanded: what began as a one day festival has developed into a full weekender, with space to stay the night at the nearby camping site!
Amsterdam Open Air The Weekender is an initiative of AIR and MTV, in collaboration with several trend setting organisations in Amsterdam. The program will be an authentic cross section of the capital’s night life.
When divergent characters come together and join forces, a joyous melting pot emerges. The four main stages will be hosted by Apenkooi, Carnivale, FORMAT and GirlsLoveDJs. The more intimate stages hosted by Pleinvrees, Nachtspelen, Cable and Midnight Freaks complete the party. In this way, Amsterdam Open Air breaks musical boundaries. The nature and sound of the festival will vary greatly on both days.
Every organization will stay true to its own character, resulting in a multitude of genres including deephouse, dubstep, electro, tech house and techno. Amsterdam Open Air will be a stroll through the current musical landscape. A festive reflection of what Amsterdam has to offer.
Guests have the opportunity to enjoy Amsterdam Open Air for two days. The biggest advantage of the new formula is that double the music can be programmed. More acts, more styles, and more space for newcomers to showcase their talent. This year guests can enjoy the musical adventure for two whole days.
The location of course plays a large role. The landscape at recreational area Gaasperpark lends itself to the production of an amazing festival. The mix of trees, hills and the refreshing water ensures the festival is never overwhelming, and always surprising.
Ticket sales begin on Tuesday February 7th. Tickets are available through the website and at the Primera vendors. A weekend ticket is €57.50, a camping combo ticket (3 nights plus breakfast, limited availability) is €99.50 and a day ticket is €37.50.
The camp site is open from Friday May 25th 12:00 until Monday May 28th 12:00.
