DJ Three, Kate Simko, Lee Curtiss, Honeyball
Saturday, May 5
Currently residing in New York City, Three has been tirelessly holding the flag for underground electronic music in the US since his rise out of the sunny state of Florida in the early 90's. In that time, he's emerged as one of the brightest DJ talents in the US and continues to be a true inspiration for many of us. Threes tour dates show both diversity in audience and a genre-bending passion for good music; hes held residencies at NYCs Twilo, Cielo (Robots), Love and Blk Market Membership, as well as Floridas legendary Simons while playing lauded guest spots at San Franciscos Wicked party, Fabric (UK), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Blk Market Membership (NYC) and forward thinking events like Japans Labyrinth Festival and Australias Rainbow Serpent.
Coming from the school of American DJs like Josh Wink and Doc Martin, Three has a wide ranging musical palate akin to Andrew Weatherall or Laurent Garnier, and was recently featured as part of DJ Times Magazines DJX20 Anniversary profile series as one of twenty DJs who embody the spirit of the American underground along such contemporaries as Josh Wink and Claude Von Stroke.
Aside from his natural ability on the decks, Three sets himself apart from the rest of the pack by presenting eclectic sounds with an open-minded attitude towards everything he does. From DJ sets to musical output, Three is a "DJ's DJ" who has always leaned toward the cutting edge without losing touch with the roots of house and techno.
KATE SIMKO (Live AV Set)
An artist waiting in the shadows in Chicago, Kate Simko stepped in to the light in 2011, pushing boundaries and leaving an indelible mark of individuality and inspiration on dance floors worldwide. To start, Kate released her acclaimed debut album ‘Lights Out’ earlier this year on Berlin's esteemed Hello?Repeat label. An artistic statement that bridged her diverse love of house, tech-house, minimal, ambient, and beyond, this is an LP in the classic sense - an album to be played from start to finish....
Over the last two years Lee Curtiss has made a name for himself creating primal, exquisitely deep and emotional dance tracks that pulse with life, sex, and humour, incorporating countless influences and genres but beholden to none. With his broad shoulders, even wider grin and keen sense of humour, Lee may give off the straight-shooting air of a Midwestern woodsman, but he’s got the ear, plain and simple. Lee Curtiss is an eccentric, an original, an innovator, a ten-year veteran of the electronic-music scene. His love of his craft shines through in his tracks’ every bump and shudder. From last year’s Visionquest remix of Kiki’s ‘Good Voodoo’, sighted by many as the underground smash of the year, to his ‘Black Door EP’ on Spectral (Mixmag’s techno ‘Tune of the Month’, October 09), Lee has an innate ability to create instantly memorable lead riffs that will stand the test of time.
Lee’s live debut at Fabric earlier this year was met with universal praise and Matthew Dear was so impressed with his live show at the Spectral party at the Miami WMC that, he immediately invited Lee to join him as the live face of Spectral Sound, touring alongside Matt over the coming months. In June Lee is set to follow up his Beatport chart topping ‘Love In The Key of Freak’ EP on Get Physical with ‘I Can Hear You Arthur’, his tribute to Arthur Russel on Guy Gerber’s Supplemental Facts label which is set to be one of the summer’s biggest underground anthems.
