The ultimate live IDM - drum 'n bass - electronica.
The generally reserved Tom Jenkinson took a 90 degree turn in recent years: he suddenly became relatively communicative, began to tour intensively and, what's more, he even turned up to his own shows! We'll certainly not soon forget his overwhelming appearance at Domino ’09. Live drum ‘n bass – with Jenkinson on bass of course – that often matches the power of metal (coincidence or not: his latest album contains a track entitled ‘The Metallurgist'). He does it all without renouncing his jazz background (Jaco Pastorius!) and finely formulates it with impressive visuals. All evidence that Squarepusher still ranks among the electronic world's best.
The new album is to be released in mid-May, ‘Ufabulum’, again via his permanent homebase Warp Records. Jenkinson on the topic: “I’ve started thinking about pure electronic music again. Something very melodic, very aggressive”. Who'd have thought that Squarepusher - who we've been following since his debut ‘Feed Me Weird Things’ (from ’96, picked up by Aphex Twin's Rephlex label at the time) - would turn out to be such a constant and influential class act. Squarepusher came the closest to ‘a hit’ with ‘My Red Hot Car’ (yep, the real title was indeed ‘My Red Hot Cock’) and his version of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’.
