Up and Atom
After the heart-pounding, stress-inducing, awe-inspiring majesty that was Faction, we at drumro[ll] decided to take a little rest up this month. You know, kick back a bit. Put our feet up. So we’ve teamed up with a little promoter called Dimensions Festival, booked a guy who’s been popping up on our radar over the last few months. Both could probably do with the exposure:
Marcel Dettmann (extended set) [BERGHAIN / OSTGUT TON / MDR]
Marcel’s fond of telling a story. One day he was playing a show out in Leipzig when he caught the last train, in the snow, to Berlin. Tired from the previous night’s extravagances he fell asleep, and awoke hours later in Hamburg (Google it. He messed up bad). So, distance and ridiculous charges aside, he promptly grabs a cab for the 250-mile-trip to Berlin, to Berghain, to that home where he plays records for hours on end.
It’s an unblinking vision that defines everything Marcel does. You can hear it in his Berghain and Conducted mixes, uncompromising techno that give you a glimpse behind the curtain, or in releases for Ostgut and his own MDR in which he ploughs the minimal-machine-funk furrow like no other.
His DJ sets are the stuff of legend. Marathon beasts that know no bounds and drive hedonistic clubbers into orgies of aural joy. And now he comes to Sheffield, to the Fez Club, to take you on that trip. All aboard kiddiwinks, it’s going to be a wild one.
Nervously supporting at Fez on the night (and currently trying to winkle out old techno diamonds so as not to be completely shown up) are residents SixFootSick and Up and Atom. Tickets are £8 early, £10 advance and more on the door. Seeing as how everything keeps selling out, we cannot recommend buying one early enough.
Through the lovely chaps at Dimensions Festival we've also got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky clubber. Keep an eye posted for the competition details closed to the time.
So all that remains is to wish June away as fast as its little legs will carry it. See you on the floor, children. And don’t say we don’t spoil you.
