Vanessa Raspa & The Zombie Cats, Lo Five, The Hemara Trio
Spend your 'Fringe' Friday night getting down on the dancefloor to three of Sydney’s best new soul/funk bands at Blue Beat as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival 2012.
“Vanessa Raspa & The Zombie Cats” are a swinging 6 piece made up of Sydney’s sharpest young jazz players. Sydney singer-songwriter Vanessa Raspa has the look and vibe that are an impeccable and captivating combination of much of the best of the 20th century – 40’s chic, 50’s sass, even a splash of 70s and 80s pop smarts -– while being entirely of today. The same goes for her music. These cats will be closing the night with flavours of soul (not Nu-, but the Detroit stuff, the real stuff), pure pop, finger-popping jazz and more than a nod to cabaret.
Co-headlining will be the enigmatic outfit “Lo Five”, made up of the creative combination of Alan Goodman, Tam Morris and Ian Mussington. These cats are fresh out of the studio from recording their debut album – ‘Singularity' - and you can expect a swag of original grooves that dip in and out of flavours from across the skein of funk history – p-funk to soul to electro funk to all things groovy in between.
Between them they have toured, remixed, written for, recorded or worked with the likes of The Sweet Inspirations, Jools Holland, Sly & Robbie, Olivia Newton John, Jamie Lidell, Soul Asylum, Paul Weller, Skunkhour, Alex Lloyd, Christine Anu, Jazzanova, Jahcoozi, Coda, Jamie Lloyd and many more in between.
“The Hemara Trio” will kick off the night with neo soul grooves combined with Christian Hemara's breath taking voice that is deeply expressive and always emotional.
