BIO MONIKA KRUSE:
With a stellar career spanning over two decades, Germany’s ‘First Lady’ of techno Monika Kruse remains an inspirational and iconic figure – working tirelessly amongst the highest echelons of our dance music scene, and counting numerous accolades and achievements to her name.
Born in Berlin, but raised in Munich, Monika’s DJ career launched in the ‘90’s and her schedule has taken her from Japan’s largest indoor rave ‘Wire’ to the Love Parade Closing Ceremony and an audience of 1.5 million. From her home base in Berlin, she regularly plays “in her living room” at Berghain/Panorama Bar, Watergate and was recently rocking Mannheim’s massive TimeWarp Festival once again, as a much-loved staple headliner.
In June 2012 we welcome the release of her sophomore solo album ‘Traces’, as a long-overdue successor to her acclaimed debut longplayer, ‘Changes Of Perception’ – which clocked in at number 2 on Raveline Magazine’s ‘Best Album of the year 2008’.
‘Traces’ is a 66 minute long reflection of Monika’s life as an artist, compiled from traces of colours drawing on 20 years experience. As such, the album takes the listener through the deep terrains of vintage house, ushered in by the soulful voice of prominent Chicago pioneer Robert Owens, through to hypnotic tribal rhythms and percussive techno beats, where occasionally her soft spot for broken breaks and ambience is allowed to bleed through. A highly thought-induced album, ‘Traces’ is comprised of 12 individual tracks, which each provide a trace to complete the whole of Monika Kruse.
Awarded with a prestigious 7th place ranking in Groove Magazine top DJ in the world poll in 2010, Monika also heads up the Terminal M and Electric Avenue Recordings imprints for more than 10 years, releasing music from the likes of Kaiserdisco, Andhim and Pig & Dan.
Determined to utilise her position and influence for the betterment of not only the greater electronic community, but society in large, Monika Kruse launched her most ambitious project "No Historical Backspin" in 2000, proving also to be one of her greatest achievements. A charity organisation against racism, intolerance and xenophobia, ‘No Historical Backspin’ has to date held over 20 non-profit events with Kruse at the helm, where clubs have provided their services and spaces for free inviting world renown artists such as Tobi Neumann, Heartthrob, Boys Noize, Daniel Stefanik, and Pier Bucci to not only perform, but donating their entire fees in support of the cause.
