Giant Step Presents Brownswood Sessions 3: José James' The Dreamer Album Release Party
In this special edition of the Brownswood Sessions, Giant Step is proud to present the release party of José James' debut album The Dreamer (out on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings Jan. 28th). José will perform his entire album live!
Having just finished his European tour, Jose James brings his blazing fresh sounds to the stage. Combining urban blues, soul and drum and bass, James has redefined the tradition of jazz music and will release his debut album of Gilles Peterson's record label, Brownswood.
DJ Ge-ology, the respected Brooklyn producer/DJ/visual artist will be a guest performer, bringing an arsenal of classic flavors from old school hip-hop to urban dance. A high school friend of the legendary Tupac Shakur, Ge-ology has some of the earliest and rare recordings of the West coast hip-hop hero. He's produced tracks for a long list of greats: Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Pete Rock and Jem, Jill Scott, De La Soul. Films and TV shows (The OC, CSI Miami, Las Vegas and Closer, starring Julia Roberts) all feature Ge-ology's music. And he will be bringing his music magic to the Jose James album release party.
Acclaimed jazz virtuoso Junior Mance will be a guest performer for Jose James. The jazz legend has appeared alongside Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins among others. He toured with Dinah Washington for two years, recording numerous albums including the "Dinah Jams" and "Jam Session." In '56, Mance reunited with Cannonball Adderley to become a member of Cannonball's first working band and later joined Dizzy Gillespie, which is largely regarded as one of the highlights of Mance's career.
DJ Moni is one of New York’s top female disc jockeys and a member of the all-female DJ crew Ubiquita. In April 2007, Moni was part of the Giant Step roster at the Winter Music Conference with acts like Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Simbad and Kruder & Dorfmeister. She has been impressing music lovers and filling dancefloors, spinning a blend of Afro-Caribbean and new wave hip-hop rhythms.
