Gilles Peterson Plus an early live performance by Leron Thomas
It's already been over a year since we last had the pleasure of having the one and only Gilles Peterson play for us in New York. His storming set at Cielo in August 2011 is still being talked about. We are overjoyed to welcome Mr. Peterson back to NY for an exclusive show at Le Poisson Rouge on October 25th. Kicking off the night will be a special early evening live performance from Leron Thomas.
Starting off life as a club DJ, Gilles continues to spin passionately around the world. This year alone has seen him in Rio, Martinique, Tokyo, Havana and most parts of Europe and East London. He has always seen himself first and foremost as a selector of discs for the Dance!
April 2012 saw a natural progression for Gilles Peterson the broadcaster, swapping his late night BBC Radio 1 slot for a peak time Saturday afternoon session on BBC Radio 6 Music. In addition, Gilles records a separate weekly Worldwide programme that is syndicated to 8 major stations across the globe.
Peterson is at the forefront of his own independent label -Brownswood Recordings - which launched in 2006 as an outlet for his favourite new discoveries. Early successes included Ben Westbeech, Jose James (now signed to Blue Note) and last year’s Mercury Nominee, Ghost Poet. When all is said and done, whichever role Gilles is performing the music is always the bottom line.
Recognized for his original trumpet compositions, Leron Thomas has performed professionally with various artists including Bilal, Roy Hargrove, Robert Glasper, Damion Reid and many others. He has expanded into a variety of genres working with the likes of Michael Stipe, Lauryn Hill, Bobby Watson and Mos Def. From 2004 onwards, he developed genre-crossing music incorporating jazz, blues, pop, country, electro-pop and rock. With seven independently released projects and critical acclaim, Leron explores a range of artistic media. He currently appears on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Bubblers Eight.
