You know the drill..
We set up in 2004, as a direct response to the 2 a penny bling bling and funky house nights that were strangling the life out of Newcastle's nightlife..Lads with 3 haircuts on one head, dancing to wailing house wasn't really our thing, nor was trance (unless it was the klf played at 33 instead of 45rpm).
Throughout our 4 years, we've put on parties in some of Newcastle's finer spaces - Tyneside Cinema, World HQ, The Cluny, The Sage and Ground Zero for Mince And Dumplings, The Northumberland Arms.
We've always been about bringing music lovers to Newcastle to play music that they love, and hopefully had not only our ears opened to some weird and wonderful music, but more importantly, yours!!.
Along the way, Suono have brought Greg Wilson back to Newcastle to dj, since he did a demonstration of mixing, live on 'The Tube' in 1983, brought Manchester's hugely influential A Certain Ratio out of semi retirement and given debuts to Leeds' 2020 Soundsystem and London's Disco dons, the 'Idjut Boys'.
Our Sunday sessions have been held on Tokyo's wonderful rooftop since May 2005, and on Bank Holiday Sundays at the Tanners, one of Newcastle's finest beats and beer bars - just outside the City Centre. We've been well and truly graced by the likes of Kelvin Andrews, Moonboots, Ashley Beedle, Danny Webb, Deepdown / Loveboat Crew, Phil Mison, Tadge and funnily enough, Greg Wilson, and been switched onto some lethal music. We always kick off at the ungodly hour of 5pm Sunday Tea Time and usually get kicked out about midnight, which gives us plenty of time to stretch our legs (but more importantly, 7 hours of boozing).
We like to think that we've brought something different to Newcastle over the course of many a lost weekend for a few years, played some weird and wonderful music and hopefully inspired like minded people to get digging through the record bargain bins for lost treasures and drop the bpm, well below 120 while still swaying on the Sabbath!! For the future, expect more of the same; the odd party, and Sunday night boozing while listening to great music with Weekend warriors, long lost rave casualties and new friends!
To help celebrate the birthdays of one Newcastle's finest bars Tokyo and also Suono, we welcome back one of our favourite DJ’s – Ashley Beedle.
Ash played for us back in October 07 at Tokyo - his choice of music was red hot, unlike the weather - therefore we felt it only right that he took control of our summer/birthday bash, back on the rooftop.
Daddy Ash was there at the beginning of the Acid House and Balearic beat days in the 80’s and has gone on to produce as part of X-Press 2, Ballistic Brothers and Black Science Orchestra. Ash is still at the forefront of cutting edge music and parties with his edits on Disco Deviance and his current project and party Heavy Disco - he is a truly amazing dj, with superb musical taste!!.
So please join us on the terraza all night!!... It wont rain, we wont nearly kill the DJ this year.....we promise!!
Oh yeah it's also Tony and Dano Suono’s birthday party, so get the Sambucca’s in!!.
