The story of The Black Dog begins with the rise of Warp Records and the abstract electronica movement in the UK.
Alongside productions by the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre, The Black Dog inspired a new wave of music with their now classic, Parallel, Bytes and Spanners albums.
Released at a time when rave was in it's ascendency, the sheer musicality of these albums defined the 'intelligent techno' sound of the early nineties.
The brainchild of Ken Downie, the project has seen many incarnations, the most recent with Richard and Martin Dust.
With the new personnel, we now see output that is stronger and darker.
Their ideas of rhythmn are manifested somewhere between dance music and the older forms, evoking listeners to move and feel.
Also playing on the night is local techno maestro Fran Hartnett. Armed with a machinedrum and a virus synth, Frans energetic live show, creates rhythms and grooves, which allow his productions to revitalise that warehouse spirit associated with techno.
Having played many of the festivals in Ireland this summer, we are happy to have him on stage giving the soundsystem a proper workout!
Warming up is multi-talented audio and visual producer, Euphiophone. Having impressed at our last gig with Redrum, he will stimulate listeners with his warm evolving melodies and industrial sounds.
We are also excited to welcome back Prozac, who after a 2 year absence, will start the night, mixing a selection of carefully chosen ambient electronica tracks.
This is a must for anyone interested in techno's experimental side.
As always, interesting visuals and quality sound are important factors to our nights.
Expect a multiscreen visual display provided by:
blindFate, Razz and Coolhandloop, plus a bass heavy (Loudmouth) 10K sound install.
