Sat Aug 22 - The South London Soul Train celebrates the 8 year birthday of The Bussey Building with a very special Eclectic 4 floor mash up of some of our favourite nights at The CLF / Bussey. The South London Soul train continuing it’s on-going multi-level mission to seriously funk up your mind and body + force feed yoh soul with the best of times.
Level 1: It’s a South London Soul Train 1 Floor special. Your host with the absolute most Jazzheadchronic, joined by regular SLST floor hosts Snowboy, Nik Weston and Gilla all on 1 level. The collective of DJ's dropping a combined 7 hr set of uplifting anthemic soul, funk, rare groove, breaks, beats and disco. Strictly on the good foot. All Night Long Baby. The Quartet of seriously funked up DJs joined by Jazz Funk Legends Pigbag LIVE!
Originally formed in 1980, Pigbag burst into the charts and the public consciousness with their first single, “Papa's Got A New Pigbag”, a track that retains its dance floor appeal to this day.
Thirty years after they split up, Sugar Shack Records are extremely pleased to announce that not only are Pigbag back with founding members Chris Lee and Ollie Moore as well as original member Kofi Adu, but they have recorded an album of brand new material entitled “Year of the Pigbag”.
With the classic eight piece line-up and full brass section, just as when they started in Bristol, the band's new material is a joyous fusion of propulsive basslines, catchy horns and irresistible percussion all seamlessly blended into a heady mix that finds your feet tapping along as the urge to dance takes over. There performance is a nonstop dance party of the highest order with echoes of the JBs, Fela Kuti and Sun Ra's Arkestra yet entirely different and their own unique creation + we truly can’t wait to see them live.
And things about to get better......
Entry to The SLST Busey Building 8 Year Anniversary Special also giving you entry to 3 more eclectic storming celebratory floors.
Level 2: Movimientos Presents LOVE CARNIVAL. After 1...2...3! massive Love Carnivals this year, they’re ready for their biggest night yet. As well as celebrating the 8 year of the Bussey, they’ll also be celebrating the 25th Anniversary year of Mr Bongo Soundsystem - who are set to shake the walls until you can’t take anymore.
Joining the Love Cranival is the mercurial Mango Park from Bristol – an exceptional pan-tropical selector and promoter of the afro-centric club night Lengoma. MP joined by London based Loo Wee Gee, one of the heads over at Culture Cuts Collective. Loo Wee Gee, and his alter ego Loo Foodle, is a self titled promoter of all things rhythmic.
Lest we forget - on hosting duties we have the Love Carnival Sound System. DJ Cal Jader, and Selecta Mad Max running through the spectrum of fresh tropical riddims from Cumbia to Afrobeats, Dancehall, Moombahton and much more, while the mighty Fedzilla takes to the mic with multi-lingual lyricism and international flow. Damn!
