Our biggest night of 2009 so far features NYC legends Metro Area playing a special extended DJ Set.
Although Metro Area was born out of the duo's dichotomous love of both the old moods of R&B, disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of innovative house and techno, it was the sound of early '80s synth heroes like Devo, Severed Heads and New Order alongside early hip-hop, jazz and 60s Hindi film soundtracks that initially inspired Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani to create music.
After over a year of late-night sessions in New Jersey and Manhattan, Metro Area burst onto the scene in 1999 with their self-titled debut 12" featuring the cult smash "Atmosphrique." These records had a worldwide impact linking the grooves of deep house sounds with the sonic adventurousness of techno. Bringing soulful experimentation of early club classics, mixing live and electronic instruments. Simultaneously, the mood and minimalism of more recent dance music forms creep into the mix: Detroit's icey futurism, Chicago's abstract track-modes and the warmth of New York and New Jersey's deep house.
Metro Area bring their 'rocking theories of time and space' to Nightflight on Friday 13th March and we can't wait!
